Questions families ask us every day
Straight answers about care, cost, and how it all works. Don’t see yours? Call us — that’s what we’re here for.
Getting care
How quickly can care start?
Often within days of your first call. After a free in-home assessment, we match a caregiver and begin — urgent situations (like a hospital discharge) get prioritized.
Do we have to commit to a minimum number of hours?
For private-pay care, shifts have a 4-hour minimum. Care covered through a state program follows that program's authorized hours. Either way, we'll build a schedule around what your family actually needs.
Can we choose or change our caregiver?
Yes. We match by needs and personality, you meet the caregiver, and if it's not the right fit we'll rematch — no awkwardness, no hard feelings.
Are your caregivers screened?
Yes. All caregivers pass background checks and complete our training requirements before entering a client's home, and A&M is bonded through Surety Bonds Direct in all states that require it.
Cost & coverage
How much does in-home care cost?
It depends on hours and level of care — but many clients pay little or nothing out of pocket through Medicaid programs, VA benefits, or long-term care insurance. Private-pay rates are quoted after your free in-home assessment. See Paying for Care, or call and we'll check your options in one conversation.
Do you accept Medicaid / MaineCare?
Yes — we work with MaineCare in Maine, New Hampshire Medicaid, Choices for Care in Vermont, and ARHOME in Arkansas. We don't currently accept Medicaid in California. If you're not sure whether your loved one qualifies, call us — checking takes one conversation.
Does Medicare pay for this?
Traditional Medicare generally doesn't cover ongoing personal care (it covers limited skilled care after qualifying events). But other programs often do — Medicaid, VA benefits, and some Medicare Advantage plans. We'll help you sort out what applies to your family.
Family Caregiver Program
Can I really get paid to care for my own parent or spouse?
In many cases, yes. If your loved one qualifies for covered in-home care, our Family Caregiver Program can train, certify, and employ you as their paid caregiver. See how it works.
Do I need experience to join the program?
No — we provide PSS training and certification. You bring the thing that can't be trained: knowing and loving the person you care for.
What if I need a break?
Respite is built in. Our caregivers can step in so you can rest, travel, or just have a day off — that's one of the biggest advantages of caregiving through an agency instead of alone.
Still have questions?
